The Australian Institute of Criminology is Australias leading national research and knowledge centre on crime and justice. The Institute seeks to promote justice and reduce crime by undertaking and communicating evidencebased research to inform policy and practice.The Australian Institute of Criminology AIC, a Commonwealth statutory authority, was established in 1973, and operates under the Criminology Research Act 1971. The Director reports to the Minister and to a Board of Management comprising distinguished criminal justice practitioners from around Australia.The Institute is governed by the AIC and Australian Public Service values and code of conduct.The functions of the AIC include conducting criminological research; communicating the results of research; conducting or arranging conferences and seminars; and publishing material arising out of the AICs work.The Acting Director of the Institute is Tony Marks, and the Chairman of the Board of Management is Professor Richard G Fox AM, Faculty of Law, Monash University.
